Brad and Lina Mills along with their son Levi moved to Manuas, Brazil in November of 2007 as volunteers with Gospel Ministries International (GMI), to help restart the Luzeiro Launch program. Their son Lucas was born in Brazil in September 2008. Brad is the current director of the Brazil Medical Launch program.
Brad and Lina met in nursing school at Southern Adventist University. After graduating in 2002, they married and moved to Bolivia to work as volunteer missionaries for a year. Upon returning to the U.S., they felt God’s call to further their education. Brad completed the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Southern Adventist University, while Lina completed the Dental Hygiene program at Chattanooga State Technical Community College. They felt these skills would aid them in future mission work.
While in school, Brad was faced with the option of delaying his studies so that he could work, or taking out school loans. After much prayer, both he and Lina clearly felt God’s leading to expedite their studies. There would be time to work and pay off loans after they graduated. However, if God needed them in the mission field sooner, He could pay off their loans by some other means.
This is exactly what happened. After graduating, both Brad and Lina secured jobs. Then suddenly they received a call from a man desiring to donate a boat to GMI to restart the work on the Amazon. The boat was a 52′ dual-hull catamaran in fabulous condition. Brad and Lina were invited to move to Brazil and run the launch program. In a matter of months, they had received (without asking) enough funds to completely pay off their $20,000 worth of loans. Their employers were supportive of their move, and God miraculously opened up some great contacts in Brazil to help with the program.
After a short time of living in Brazil, it has become evident why God moved so fast to start this program. Doors are starting to close, and it is becoming more difficult to get permission to work here. However, God is continuing to work miracles to advance His work. Surely He is coming soon. “Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.” (Matthew 25:6).
